That's a bit what the last three weeks of a school year feel like. It's like juggling all the balls you can handle and someone throws in a dozen more.
I have been at the school an extra five or six hours a day since about the 8th, trying to stay caught up on marking, get ahead on planning, and taking care of the relentless tasks as you head towards year end. Add to that my packing up a room. It's not hard, just non stop work. just as many of you know in your jobs away from home, or at home, or both.
Tonight I took a break from going to the school. By taking a break it means I am out on my patio entering marks and writing out my lists of things I need to do/buy before my two day including overnight field trip this week. But there is something to be said to working outside, sipping a water with lemon in it, while watching my cats play and listening to the birds sing.
It will be a big hard push until Monday morning, and then it is just jumping through all the regular hoops along with awards evenings and afternoons and the final field trip activities.
I leave home Friday morning for our big field trip and won't get back home Saturday afternoon. Then I need to sleep for awhile and have to get back at the slideshow for our year end awards and my speeches.
How does this affect budget? It's taking a hard hit. Not being home to plan and grocery shop makes for too many pay for it suppers. I have succumbed to Tim Hortons a few more times in the morning rather than my once a month treat on the last Friday of the month on the way to school.
Lots of pay for it suppers through work. A school one with students that costs. A trip to the lake with the school - canteen costs. An awards night for a retiring admin - cost. You know what those months are like.
Methinks I need to add a budget line or a savings category for June craziness, just like I do for Back to school costs.
Definitely worth thinking about.

Travelling sports used to throw our budget. Extra tanks of gas, on the road food stops, gate fees, until I annualized and put those costs into the category "school and sport" then divided by 12. It helped my mindset anyway.
I certainly don't miss report cards or packing up my room! But I do miss all the fun things that are always done in June. Around these parts teachers are "working to rule" and are thus only putting a letter grade on report cards this year. There is a LOT of turmoil in Ontario and it looks like it could go on for awhile.
SAM - I do/did that with their sports fees and school too. Took me a few years to figure out to set money aside in a separate account each month. When I did, boy I sure appreciated it.
Jane - Sorry to hear they are going through that. I did work to rule twice and it was awful. Once was in June and so many things were over ridden by powers that be such as prep for track meets, field trips, grad. It created a lot of confusion and a lot of bitterness.
I'm surprised that you're still in school. Toronto school boards are out - although right now they say they might strike in the fall - so who knows when the kids go back. Also, 21 day push? I'd feel really bad for the person in labour! hahaha.
Pear - we are done on the 30th.
