It was an interesting experiment.
If it were purely food we put in our mouths based, this challenge was, even with our Canadian high grocery prices, completed.
I spent $6.77 on 4L of milk and $4.14 on a large loaf of bread. With enviro tax on the milk jug and tax, this came to just under $11.
$10 remaining in the challenge.
We needed toilet paper however and with tax that came to $11 ish. DH went to buy that. Did he bring the receipt? no.
I get that I mention TP a lot. As a person with colitis, it is a big part of my life, unfortunately. In the spirit of TMI, I probably use as much as a family of four.
We could have gotten each of these a little cheaper if we had driven over to Walmart. The cost of gas to go there and back is $2. I theory tested it a few weeks ago. The danger is going to Walmart is self control. So many things to catch the eye.
I decided the lower prices weren't worth the extra 30 min of driving time there and back and the time in the store and at the register.
So did I make the challenge? not quite. but super close.
For supper
Sun- Thanksgiving at mom and dads
Mon - thanksgiving leftovers at home
Tues - eggs. I like scrambled and DH made an omelette with veggie leftovers
Wed - sloppy joes with tossed salad (used up the salad veggies)
Thurs - mom invited us over for porkchops and baked potatoes
Fri - no clue what DH ate, but there were dishes in the sink when I got home from volleyball tourney. It was late so I had some toast and crashed.
Sat - chicken and rice.
We could probably do this again right away but we'd need some veggies and some yogurt.
In the 'household supplies' category, which shares the $180 budget, we are out of cat food, Kleenex and Motrin. I have to renew my prescription this week as well.
I suppose when you include household, every week has a something which is running out.
It was an interesting experiment, and one I doubt I would have been successful with when my boys were at home.
So I 'saved' $160 this week, with little difficulty. It went straight towards the new to DS vehicle debt.
