multiple RRSP updates

 OH yes it's been awhile.

It isn't that I don't love ya'll or appreciate all that I learned while doing this blog.

I seriously have NEVER been this tired after work days ever in my teaching career.

I come home, eat, do dishes and crash, often just barely holding out until 8 PM so I can go to bed.

very sad indeed.

It isn't just the blog that has been neglected. My mail pile of non critical mail has been too.

So here are 3 RRSP updates I found in a drawer.

It looks like the last RRSP updated I tagged on here was July 2020. wow girl.

I definitely added to it last November. Not a ton, but a bit.

 July 2020 - $19 197

December 2020 - $24 086. well hello that's up more than I contributed

June 2021 - $24 868.11, hmmm not much movement there.

September 30 - $25 253.  a wee bit up.

This reminds me that I need to contact my person for this year's.

I am doing that immediately after publishing this, though I know she won't see it until Monday.

And then I am going straight down to the filing cabinet to put these away.

I miss ya'll!

RRSP update

This quarter's statement showed a drop of 2.16%. Despite that my balance is $19 197, which is up from the March statement. Down still a bit from December of 2019.

I definitely need to check that March statement to see if I was reading it correctly. The math doesn't make sense.

What does make sense is the drop,  unpleasant as it is. Watching the US market drop this morning, whose ripple effect will undoubtedly continue here in Canada.

Of course I like the income tax benefits I get from even my small RRSP contribution.

I wonder, however, if it is not better long term served to put whatever dibbles I have in TFSA.

Ahhh how I wish all those numbers were bigger.

RRSP ups and downs

The market continues its ups and downs. Seems like a lot more downs than ups.

Despite my addition late last fall it is still wavering.  The account stands at $16 940

This is down $3400 from December 31, 2019

$3400!!!

I know lots of  you have much much bigger RRSP and have likely lost more, but this hurts!

I don't even want to think about what it will look like with all the Covid crisis coming up.

RRSP plummet

I got my statement for the end of 2018 for my RRSP portfolio. It was sitting at $15 814 previously in 2018.

Not impressed at the new number of $14 262. That's a drop of over $1500. It's lower than it was this time last year.

I feel like I am saving for nothing.

This does not include the $1500 that I just added for 2018 at the start of 2019.

Most frustrating.

RRSP

I had the money set aside for months but never got a chance to go in to the bank to get it added on.

I made myself just go do it today and get it off my list of things to do. Sometimes the only moment we have is the one available right now.

While not much, $1500 has been added to RRSP and will give me a wee bit of a benefit come tax time.

RRSP update

My RRSP has taken a hit. In January my balance was 15 455.92.

Now it stands as $15 170.83

A drop of $300 on so small a balance just doesn't seem fair.

RRSP Update

When last we left my wee little RRSP account it had a balance of $15 455.92 and had made a gain of under $200.

With my quarterly update I am up $358 with a new balance of $15 814.84

I really wish I had been in a position (or smart enough) to add more, and start earlier.  As I head to the last 10 or so years of working I know this little bit isn't going to get me far at all when retirement comes, especially after it's taxed.

I have my $1500 saved for my 2018 contribution so perhaps I will have time to get it added in the next couple weeks.

RRSP Update

When last we left off with my RRSP in July, it had taken a bit of a hit ($325) with the market and was down to $13 851.09.

Since then the dollar has gone up and then down down so I would expect the market to reflect that as well.

I added $1500 in August to the portfolio, so at base level it should be at $15 351.00

I found my statement in a pile of things I had set aside during the flurry of mail when we got back from the States. Bad me. Good thing there wasn't bills in there :-)

My portfolio is listed at $15 455.92

That means the whole $1500 managed to survive the market and I 'made back' an additional $104.92.

I certainly won't get rich soon, but at least it is slowly moving in the right direction.

RRSP and back to school

Yesterday was a super busy day, running around with last minute things to do before school starts today.

One of the stops was to the bank to sign papers for my RRSP. $1500 added to the tiny little pot.

The rest was buying groceries. I didn't realize how many things I was out of or super low on for back to school. TP, fruit, veggies.Cleaning products Bought new ice packs for my lunch bag. A few healthier choice snacks.

I made a stir fry for DS2 for supper and got ready for the work week.

Summer is over.

RRSP takes a hit

Well the Canadian and world market certainly hasn't been kind to my ethical bonds and dividends.

My last RRSP statement left me with a small gain and a balance of $14 176.55.

My statement arrived today and it is now sitting at $13 851.09

Ouch

That is a hit of $325.46... more than my small gain the quarter before.

The hurrier I go, the behinder I get :-)

RRSP

Forgotten in a pile of April mail that wasn't 'open now' necessary, was my RRSP update.

With the dollar tanking and things going crazy market wise, I had honestly expected a dip.

I was pleasantly surprised.

My last RRSP statement was $13 925.48

My mix is ethical bonds and dividends. Very conservative.

I am pleased to see that my balance is now is $14 176.55

In  a 2017 with lots of money and health hits it was good to see a little positive.

This was a gain of $251.07

RRSP Update

When last we left off the tiny little RRSP engine that could, it was sitting at $13 473.14 after growing a bit from the previous quarter.

I have changed nothing in terms of where the money goes - ethical dividends and bonds.

My latest portfolio statement says I am at $13 925.48

That's a growth of just about $450.  Not phenomenal by any standard, but moving the tiniest bit in the right direction.

Now to get at saving for this year's contribution.

RRSP update

Among the pile of mail that came last week while I was distracted with Parent Teacher Interviews, was my RRSP update.

The last time I updated, my balance was sitting at $11 563.99.

I was excited to have it back over 10 grand, though I do realize that 10 won't take me very far when I finally get around to cashing it that in.

After my July update, I added $1500 to my account. That would bring it to $13 036.  My statement shows that I am sitting at $13 473.14. This is a gain of $400 over the past quarter on my Canadian bonds and dividends.

I haven't changed the proportion of my investments since I started. I really am not 'in the know' on this sort of thing. I am not a risk taker and I don't have a ton to play with. Or a ton of time.

Now onwards to saving towards next year's wee goal.

RRSP Update

When last I wrote in May, my RRSPs had made some gain from the previous quarter.... a welcome sign. We left off with it sitting at $11 438.00

My statement this time shows $11 563.99.

A small gain, but at least it was a gain.

RRSP Update

When last we met, my RRSP had taken a bit of a hit with the plummeting Canadian dollar. It was sitting at $10 946.62 after a drop of $30 and a drop before that.

I haven't changed what I have invested. Still Canadian Bonds and Canadian Equities.

It was good to see that it was up to $11 438 - a gain of just under $500, at $492.

I really hope to be able to add to this in 2016, but things are tough. Neither DS has been able to find a summer job yet. DS1 can't until he is home in June and most summer jobs are gone then. DS2 is supposed to get one in his field as part of his course. The flood of people coming back from Alberta due to job loss have eaten up most of the jobs in his field. I am not sure what we will do.

Times are tough around here.

RRSP Update

When last we met, my balance was at $10 976, after the dollar starting its playing around and spiraling down and down.

I had to admit I was more than a little worried about this statement, given how mr dollar has continued to drop and drop.

So where are we now?

My statement reads $10 946.62

a drop of $30

oddly enough I am relieved.

I thought it was going to be much much worse.

RRSP update

When last we checked in with  my RRSP update we had taken a hit as the Canadian dollar tanked. My big excited about being above $10 000 was crushed, and life........well life moved on.

It has gone from $10 196 down to $9 847.

So currently I find it back up again, thank goodness.  My current statement has me at $10 976, which puts me up $1129 since last statement. This should accommodate the $1500 I added in...I think

I will not pretend to understand the market.  I would need serious training for that :-)

If my past math is correct, I have put in a total of $9200 since I opened it. A small gain over 5 years, but not monumental.

RRSP Update

OUCH

We took a hit.

When last we spoke, my RRSP was sitting at $10 196. I was excited to have finally gotten my RRSP over that magical hump of ten grand.

Imagine my disappointment when I opened my July statement and found this balance: $9 847.

Ouch.

That's a pretty big hit. A $ 349 hit

I am attributing it to the dollar drop but would welcome other thoughts on why? I am going to ask when I go put in my next $1500 for 2015.

RRSP contribution limit

I realized that I  happily greeted the cheque portion of my income tax return, but never looked at the Notice of Assessment (summary) that came with it.

Among other things it has the RRSP contribution limit that I have left should I find a windfall and decide to dump a ton of cash into it.

I have over $50 000 worth of room left to contribute. HA!

I have no illusions that I will max out my RRSP. I started too late and have too many other places my money has to go.

I am grateful for the $10 000 ish I have in my RRSP portfolio and the money I have in my pension. I am becoming more and more aware that I am on the downward slope of the years I have left to work.  I definitely have a lot to learn.

RRSP Update

Last Friday my statement came for my RRSP portfolio, so it's time for my first update of 2015.

When last I wrote in November 2014, my RRSP was sitting at $8650. Right at the end of November, I added $1200 for the 2014 year, which was $800 short of my hoped for goal.

This put my portfolio balance just shy of $10 000 at $9850. I remember being annoyed at not being able to get to $10 000, even though it's really just a number.

My portfolio had increased $236 between the summer 2014 and November 2014 statements.

My statement currently is sitting at $10 196. Woo hoo!!! I am over the $10 000 mark and only tens of thousands below my contribution limit lol

This gives me  a net growth of $346 between this statement and the last.  I had honestly expected it to be less given how badly the Canadian dollar tanked and my portfolio consists of Canadian Bonds (35%) and Canadian Equity (65%).  Anyone more familiar with how the dollar may or may not have affected this number is welcome to share with me. I freely admit to really not knowing squat about investments.

My RRSP goal for 2015 is  $1500. I hope college and Murphy doesn't crap on me enough to prevent this from happening.
