Where the money stands

as of July 3

Debt
Mortgage - $0
College LOC - $0
Total Debt - Zero. Still feels weird to write it. Don't want to say it too loudly or Murphy will find me

Planned Savings
TFSA - $9900
RRSP - $14 262
TFSA 2020 - $600
Back to School - $500
Summer 2020 - $300 -
Christmas 2020 - $500

I usually save $1000 for Summer fun money but I honestly don't think I will go past the $300 I have right now. Fewer places to go is part of it.

Honestly I think there are so many little jobs to do around the house this year. This will be my first summer since 2017 where I didn't have caregiver duties.  And I have a lot of work on me.

I need to get that TFSA done, Christmas, and start RRSP 2020 before I find it December.

Woot $ news

So as of today, I am mortgage free!

I am flashing back to an episode of MASH where Colonel Potter learns his wife has scrimped to pay off the mortgage. She then sends him the mortgage paper and he has a little ceremony to burn it.

Well it wasn't quite that dramatic.

We were down to $2000 ish on the mortgage. There was enough in the buffer they build for our 2020 property tax to pay this off with a little extra left over. The trick - I would have to save between now and June 30 to have the money to pay our property tax.

Compared to many of you our taxes are lower which is due to living in a small house in a small town in the middle of the prairie.

DH and I had done the calculations and we figured we could do it. Redirect the mortgage payments and use the bit of left over and voila!

I signed the necessary papers and they would have the documents mailed to me. Much less exciting than Colonel Potter but still.

I am now the owner of two houses with no mortgage. Just tons of work to be done and the bills that go to maintain it.

Where the money stands

as of January 7, 2020

New year...new tracking. And hopefully more faithful than I was the latter half of 2019.

This year brings us close to, if not done, the mortgage at the old house and also, the college LOC

I don't want to say that too loudly as Murphy does love to take advantage of progress and throw new, unexpected expenses at us.

Debt
Mortgage - $2 500.00
College LOC - $7000.00
Total Debt - $9 500

Planned Savings
TFSA - $9900
RRSP - $14 262
TFSA 2020 - $500
Back to School - $200
Summer 2020 - $0
Christmas 2020 - $500

I didn't end up spending all my xmas money as we didn't really buy gifts and no one was over.  I have $500 ready to go for next year.

I didn't end up spending all my back to school as my brain was overwhelmed with funeral and post funeral things so  I have a head start on that as well.

Where the money stands

wow I just realized I haven't done one of these since July. This life change has definitely affected me in more ways than I can count.

Debt
Mortgage - $3 461.92
College LOC - $9 000.00
Total Debt - $12 461.92

Planned Savings
TFSA - $9400
RRSP - $14 262
TFSA 2019 - $600
Back to School - $200 (used $300
Summer 2019 - $300
Christmas 2019 - $500

The mortgage will be done in a few months and by then we will be out of the house and probably know if we are keeping it  for the short term future or preparing to sell. If we keep it then we have to start saving monthly for the property tax, which we've never had to pay before as they were included in the mortgage.

The college line of credit is now below 10 000 so that is good. Hopefully there are no murphy events and I can work to eliminate this in the next 18 months
