Things just keep happening

Today we had to say goodbye to our cat. She joined our family in November of 2006. Her family lived next door and they moved. And just left her behind. She came up to our step, meowed, and moved in.

She has been unwell for awhile now. Trouble eating. Throwing up lots. DS2 took her to the vet today knowing it might not be good news. It was not. She had a large tumour.

He was very strong to make this decision, especially given his mental health struggles.

He texted his brother in Europe so he could say goodbye.

The house is incredibly empty without her. She was our normal. Our routines revolved around her.

She was the first person I talked to in the morning and the last person I talked to at night as she snuggled into bed.

She was the best cat and a bright spot in our family in this year of sadness.  and I miss her already.

TFSA

I finally got around to adding $ to the Tax Free savings account. I think it's actually been a couple years. I KNOW I didn't last year.

I went to the bank to transfer the money and they said it can now be done online. I appreciate the ease of that but every time they transfer another ability for us to not need to go into the bank, increases the possibility they will cut hours, employees and days open at the brick and mortar. I saw it happen with my other bank and now I  rarely can make it there in person to do anything during the school year.

I added $1000 to it and will work on doing the same next year.

While a small goal, it was nice to actually hit something for a change.

the news

The doctors have said there is nothing more they can do for dad. We can keep fighting the fluid and the breathing but his heart is fading and organs are starting to not do their job.

Dad asked to come home. The doctors agreed. We are doing everything they are doing and he would rather be in his own house. He was grateful to be home and he started writing out lists. Plans. for the funeral. for his belongings. etc.

It has now been a year that we have been taking care of mom and then dad. It definitely takes its toll.

Back in the hospital

Dad is back in. He can't breathe and the fluid just keeps building. He is sad because he doesn't think we are going to win this darn fight.

I am exhausted.

Beating the flu

I have to tell you....that version of the flu floating around is nasty.

It took me out for most of last week. It started the Friday before and then seemed to get better. Tuesday morning,  during the , I woke up feeling off. It was a rough night but I got up for work and showered nevertheless. Sometimes you just feel better after your shower.

Not this time.

I bundled up and headed to school early to prep for a sub.

I barely made it home before the flu extravaganza began. I haven't been this sick since I had food poisoning in 2008.

Wed morning I felt a little better. Got up, showered and knew it was going to work. Repeat the 'go to school, plan for a sub and then come home again'.

I went to work Thursday determined to make it. I was home before 10.

Friday I survived the day of work but it was a long day.

I think I picked up the bug at the hospital visiting dad.

I did not get a flu shot this year. From everything I heard, this strain going around would not have been slowed by it anyways.

Home from the hospital

Dad has been in the local hospital for almost 3 weeks now.

We just can't seem to keep the fluid off his lungs, legs and feet. He is glad to be home, but things are not moving in the direction we want to.  There were further medical complications we will be fighting. He is getting tired of fighting.
