I saw the idea on NDChic's Cents, who saw it on Finally Acting our Wage.
I usually allocate $180 a week (Canadian, for those lucky folk in cheaper grocery land) and this is for groceries as well as household things like shampoo, conditioner, household supplies, prescriptions etc.
If I can keep this week at the $21 limit then that gives me $159 to put towards those nagging debts. What a sweet little snowflake.
Not really any rules: just keeping track.
I started it on Sunday, with Thanksgiving at mama's. Monday was leftovers and it was just me.
So I thought I'd give it a shot. My week will be up Saturday night....which is the end of my weekly 'allowance' for jar money.
What might I need? milk, bread, Toilet paper. I have another volley ball tourney this weekend so I will have to think and plan.
I snack far too often and those cost....and I always
What have I done to motivate myself? I am cooking up some dobbles of ground beef that were in the freezer for sloppy joes for Wednesdsay. We have buns from my mom's. I also am baking a spaghetti squash, which will give me something to nosh on for my lunch at school that is filling.
Here we go!

Good luck!! It worked for me. One thing, I didn't include any household things like toilet paper in the $21 because that would have eaten up too much of the $21 and I really wanted to make it. I had to get creative but overall it was a success.
Good luck with the challenge!! I'm not sure I could do it....orrr would be willing to try right now.
Since I never buy tp, I have that covered. I learned to snack more cheaply and snack on less--I buy expensive pistachios and only eat ten at one time. Since I must remove them from the shell, the snack time last longer.
Since I stock up during sales, I can go a while without shopping if need be. Actually, if there are no sales, I don't shop except for milk and bananas.
Have you looked at Simple Savings? http://www.simplesavings.com.au/21dollarchallenge
I used their monthly newsletter for years to help me on my path to debt-free living. As for buying toilet paper, I had actually set aside a flyer yesterday to clip a great coupon (I rarely use them) for TP, and when I got up this morning I found the Kitten had chewed a whole right through it. All the other coupons were intact, except the one I wanted to use. Grrrr Kitten!!
Karissa - no I haven't read Simple Savings. I will have to take a peek at it when I get a chance. Trust the kitten to know just which one you wanted.
Linda - Looks like you have excellent planning and impulse control. So important!
Jesse - It would be unlikely I would be successful with my boys at home :-)
ND - you are absolutely creative, and quite inspiring.
