I probably shot myself in the foot by crossing my fingers the other day that nothing bad goes wrong. Karma is a alert woman and she was listening.
My dryer stopped working. Wouldn't even turn on. DH opened up the back, vacuumed it out and poked about but couldn't even find where the belt etc was hidden. He brought up that we may need a new set. I sent him to the repair shop to ask the nice folks their thoughts and how to find the elusive belt. They were happy to comply and said if it's not the belt then we probably needed someone to come out and look at it. He came home and opened it up again and the belt was in fine condition.
We set up an appt with a repair guy to come out and have a look at it. He was less than 15 minutues and determined it was one of the four fuses. Fixed and voila! No new washer and dryer for me.
Cost - $88
I have to admit part of me was disappointed to not get a shiny new front loading washer and dryer, but the other part of me was saying 'so where did we plan to get a couple thousand for this shiny new toy set?'
This is the first time I have had to repair my dryer. The washer - twice. Once a repairman came for a bill just under $100 and once DH did it.
Pretty darn good for a set that is 17 years old this month.

Thats great you were able to get repaired. When we moved to our new house twoyearsago we got new shiny front loaders....the washer lasted three weeks before it died. My hubby is pretty handy and fixed it himself - the cord has completely cut through - but it was an eye opener to realize you can't just return an item like that. We had a huge run around and couldn't get it repaired since we live in a small town. Personally, I think ll the new things are being made to be disposable....
Glad it was an easy fix!! I'd much rather have a cheap repair bill than have to shell out a couple $K for new appliances! lol!
They aren't making appliances like they used to. You are very fortunate to be able to fix it for under $100. Phew!
I'm glad it could be fixed. Washers & dryers are pretty pricey nowadays. Especially the shiny coloured ones a la LG and whatnot.
When my dryer went last year I wanted one of the pretty ones with all the buttons and stuff..but then hubby rained on my parade by saying everything that could break.

Pshew. Glad it wasn't too much money to get it fixed. And you're right. Murphy will always be around.
Not too bad at all!! I much prefer to repair than replace. Perhaps it's time to set up a savings fund though for a new set. The day will come eventually...however THIS set has certainly paid for themselves!
