At my last update at the end of July, I had $8414 with an increase of $208 over the quarter.
With my current statement, it shows a balance of $8650. This gives me an increase of $236 over the past three months. It looks like that bonds and dividends are holding steady then. I am glad for the $236 though I know when it comes time to pull those funds, there will be fees/ income tax involved. I hope it all balances out in the end.
I am concerned that I will not have an RRSP contribution this year. I mean, should I really be contributing when I have $ on the LOC for College??
I really would miss the deductions come income tax time if I didn't.
I am starting to feel a bit like a financial loser as I can't keep on top of things. and I have 3.5 years left of college for ds1 and another round with ds2
Tuesday, Nice weekend!

Dear Jolie
Please don't be so hard on yourself. I think you are doing an amazing job with your finances. Remember: you're doing it alone without any help from your husband. You are an inspiration to me.
Love Rikke
Gosh you are not a financial loser. Look how much debt you have paid off in 6 years. You only have $22,000 in mortgage debt to pay. You have done a fantastic job over 6 years paying down debt. Yes these coming years are going to be expensive and a challenge, but you are definitely not a financial loser - you are a winner :) Sandy in NZ
I'm mirroring Rikke and Sandy's comments here. Not a loser, though I can understand exactly how you feel lost and torn about this.
Same deal over here - as I watch my RRSP climb to over $20,000, and my savings account get to $1,200 for the year, all while I have about $40,000 of debt to pay back.
Know that you are marching with purpose and preparing for your retirement at the same time. As Gail says - get in the act of saving, while you are working on getting healthier financially. That simple act will carry you so far into the future, and it'll be automatic for you that the day you are done with your debt, you'll be ecstatic and be able to beef up those savings without any trouble. Eye on the prize lady. You've got this!!!
Don't forget, your contribution room can be carried forward. So you may not be contributing much this year but you will can catch up in the future.
Definitely not a loser - you've inspired MANY of us here in many different ways! It's just a bit bumpy right now. Perhaps scale back a little bit so you're not feeling quite so stressed and frustrated. Like Pear said, your contribution room can be carried forward. Even if you're saving a little less, it still means you're saving! xx
Rikke said it perfectly!
You were the first blog I've ever read in the personal finance community and I've every single post of yours: you are a huge inspiration to me Jolie
