Get walking, she said. It's good for you, she said

One of my favourite parts of this time of year isn't just that school will be ending, but that my season of walk whenever I want to is coming soon.

I headed out this morning for a nice 2 K walk. Just hearing the birds and feeling the breeze is a mental rejuvenation for me.

I got home and it was time to head over to dad's to make him a Sunday brunch. I told DH I would walk over and he could drive over and meet me there.

I got to the end of my block and something funky happened. My left knee gave out and before I knew it, I was down on the ground, landing hard on that knee. Two kind passerbys who witnessed my epic stumble stopped to see if I was ok. 'Just my pride" I laughed and then grabbed my phone (undamaged after hitting the pavement .  thank you) and brushed myself off.  Feeling none the worse for wear, except  my pride, I moved on.

I kept walking the 10 blocks to dad's. He was down in the garden so I sat there with him and visited a bit. When DH got there I headed up to start brunch.. My knee was sore after sitting. It got worse during the cooking of and eating of his brunch. By dishes I could barely move and was limping a lot.

I had DH drive me home and took some ibuprofen and went to bed.I slept for most of the afternoon and it is NOT better.

Not a great way to tackle the last week of school.

What I am reading

I thought I would try something light.  A nice, fluffy beach read type book.

I borrowed Thin, Rich, Pretty from the library.

It was ok, but not something I would recommend, even as a beach read type book.

What I am reading

This week's selection is a YA book that I read because I am hoping to do it with students next year. Eric Walters is a Canadian Author who actually came to our school this year and presented to our students.  I love the relatability of the books he writes as well as the variety. There is something for every student in his writing and that is why so many of the kids read him.

90 Days of Different is the story of a girl graduating from High School whose boyfriend dumps her for being boring and unadventurous. Her best friend proposes that for the 90 days between graduation and college starting, she pushes Sophie ( main character) out of her comfort zone to try new things.

I turn 50 this year and am someone who definitely could stand to be pushed out of her comfort zone and experience a bit more variety in life.  This book may be for teens but the message definitely is not.

I definitely need a bit more Sophie in my life.

What I am reading

I found another book by Karen Harper that appealed to me and dove in. The setting is Sandringham during the end of the Reign of Queen Victoria through George VI becoming a young man.

It was a time period I really hadn't read a lot about before and I quite enjoyed it.

I hope that summer brings a resurgence of energy and drive and purpose.
