I have been used to Remembrance Day Ceremonies at my old school of just under 200 students. I always worry students will not be respectful during the ceremony. Moving now to a school of over 1000 students....that's a lot of bodies to be in one place and be 'in the moment'.
I was very impressed with how my new student body behaved during the ceremony. We had a Master Corporal in to speak on his time in Afghanistan and why Canada was there. For so many students, Remembrance Day is about wars fought long before their grandparents were born. Not that those world changing battles were not important, but having someone speak who fought in something recent, someone so young, comparatively, gave the day a whole new meaning.
My old school did this as well. For one, we Skyped a doctor who had did 3 tours of duty, and another, the father of one of our students came and spoke, having just finished his tour of duty the week before.
It is so important that schools continue to have this tradition of Remembering our Veterans.
