We took two extra days last weekend and went down to visit DS at college.
The flight was ridiculously early so we had to leave our home at 2AM to drive to the city to catch the plane by 5:30. It was that or pay to stay a half night at a hotel in the city We weren't willing to give up that money. Some tired folks when we got to DS's city though.
It was lovely to be back there and to see him. We spent time at the rink with him, at his dorm room and at a park in the city. We even had the chance to cook him a meal in his tiny kitchen. They don't do a lot of true cooking there.
It was homecoming weekend so there were parents and families everywhere around the city for the football team, the soccer games, volleyball, and of course, hockey. An incredible lot of college, spirit around the community, which was nice to see. There is a steakhouse that gives the hockey team free lunch on game days at home. I am told other restaurants do the same for the other teams.
It was not a cheap weekend. 3 flights, 3 nights hotel, rental car, $25 to check a piece of baggage every single time!!!!
It did both DS and us good to see each other. Much valued family time.
I need to put the pieces together and see how much it all cost and then cut the corners to pay this trip off fully.
Here are a couple shots from our time in a park in the city, that has it's own waterfall. The first one has DS2 in it. I particularly loved the beautiful maple leaf I found.
Tuesday, Nice weekend!

That time away with family is so important I think. Sometimes, the family time is more important than the $$.
Looks & sounds like it was an awesome trip! I'm sure you'll have it paid off in no time flat! :)
Oh, sounds like a good trip! The maple leaf looks like a painting...
YES! A glorious red maple leaf - in the U.S.!! Very meaningful in these troubled days. What a great little trip (other than the terrible flight time!) and so glad you got to see DS. You really needed that little boost. Don't you worry about the money - it was money well spent!
Lovely photos. Thanks for sharing. It's good that you got to spend time with DS though. Money well worth it!
