Maybe it is because the last third of the year I was in poor health.....or maybe it is because money started going out the window in February....or maybe because the kids' expenses have gone up, but I really don't feel that 2011 was my most purposeful year for money, since I started blogging.
I started off so optimistic and eventually I just lost all control, and what is worse, all caring. Too sick to even log on to blog or to write down expenses and too sick to care. I didn't like that feeling and I hope 2012 gives me different and stronger physical and mental energy.
So how did I do????? meh
My 2011 Goals!
Financial Goals
a) Boost Emergency Fund to $3000
FAIL - This was one of the sacrifices I made when I decided to allow DS to go to Italy on a school tour. Leaves me lots of room in my TFSA should I find the money to top it up.
b) RRSP 2011 of $1500
PASS - I debated lowering this amount to accomodate other needs. In the end (just the other day) I hit my goal and went to the bank and added it to my RRSP.
c) Xmas 2011 $1400
PASS - Goal was acheived and the money went fast.
d) Summer 2011 of $1000
PASS - Goal achieved as of January 25th
e) Pay $5000 extra on my Vehicle Loan
FAIL - I probably could have acheived this and during the latter half of the year money just seemed to slip through my fingers. I paid down $3000.
f) Save $1500 for back to school costs.
PASS - It felt so good to have that money in place for school fees, school supplies and a few new clothes.
Personal Goals
a) Go to the gym or get rid of the membership!
I got rid of the membership at the end of the year. Bittersweet feelings about that.
b) Read 25 books (6 read as of end of January)
FAIL - I read 21. I re read lots of others but didn't count them as new literature.
c) Try 10 new recipes
FAIL - I probably tried about 4. I really need to break out of my ruts.
d) Move more/Use my time better.
sigh - no comment
e) Lose 20 lbs.
FAIL ish - I started off 2011 at my highest ever so it wasn't too wickedly hard to lose some. I went up and down over the year, lost a whack at the end when I was fasting and then gained some of it back when food entered my body. I lost about 17 pounds this year. Still have dozens and dozens to go.
Tuesday, Nice weekend!

I think you did great! There are more 'passes' than 'fails' on there and really, some of the fails are just barely, which I think should count more as an "almost pass." You still achieved a huge amount. It's funny how we focus so much on what we didn't do, rather than what we did. Happy New Year, Jolie!
I think considering all that went on this year you did very well! I hope your health improves so you can focus on enjoying life and on your goals.
As far as giving up the gym, do your kids have a Wiii or Playstation? My BF got a game called Active 2 for the PS3 for Christmas. It's a workout game, and it's kicking my butt! Much better workout than Wii Fit, but each one is only 20 minutes, and you can set it to easy, medium, or hard (I'm dong medium). I'm planning to use it this year to tone up and keep running in hopes of losing some weight myself. Just an idea. :)
I think you did great! For this year, I've decided upon 52 goals, but instead of focussing on marking them off, I want to focus on a specific theme each month (see my latest blog). By doing that, I hope to develop some great habits and in the process, achieve goals. It is the first time I tried this, so I'm not sure if it works, but I have high hopes ;-)
Great to hear from you NLA. You're right...some are not complete fails so perhaps a letter grade would have been a truer rep. Always the teacher :-)
LBC - thanks. No we don't have either of those systems. There just isn't room in our tv area for that kind of movement. It's a great idea though.
LLMM - I love your idea of basing it on themes!
Don't be too harsh on yourself. New Year. New Goals. You can always try again. :)
