Happy Saturday everyone. We're all running in different directions today. DS2 is coming home from Scout camp. He got to go and run the programming for three days for his former school; teaching them how to handle an axe.... how to safely prepare an area for fire...how to build different kinds of fires depending on the situation...etc. He is home today and off again tomorrow to the northern camp to run programming for 8 days.
DH is out at my sister's acreage. She is gone for business for two weeks and he's cutting all her lawns. There's a ton. Her dog and carts are very glad to have company and follow him around constantly. If he could put a sidecar on the riding mower, the dog would ride with him.
DS1 is finally going to get a job. He just wasn't able to find one out of all the applications he put in and the handful of interviews he had. He must not interview well. Anyhoo, the dishwasher at my sister's restaurant quit and my brother in law phoned this morning to see if he was still wanting to work. So for now it's a go. I told BIL that DS knew squat and would have to be trained and if it wasn't working out, to not feel the least big bad about letting him go. Life lessons are important.
I am beyond excited about having the chance to teach DS how to budget his money. He won't earn a lot but gas money, a bit of spending and saving for his plates (insurance) is good enough for me. Also, it will give him something to do this summer. A purpose is always good.
I am off to the school to work on report cards and get ready for awards. We have a big 50th to go to tonight, though DS1 will miss, for work.

Since payday is tomorrow, a weekend, we got our cheque today. I logged onto my bank account this morning to see 'the damage'. For those who have been reading my blog, you will know I lost 2 days at the end of May for job action. A hit to the paycheque but one I knew was coming. To compensate, I decided to cash in my 2 earned days off, rather than taking them. I earn these days through hours of work outside of regular school with students. The ratio of these earned days is about 5 to 1. (five hours of work with students = 1 hour of earned time)
So in theory... a paycheque minus 2 days, plus 2 days getting cashed in, should balance out.
Not!!
In reality, it appears that 2 + 2 - 2 = 1.5
It will be interesting to go into work to see the paystub. I probably won't fully understand.
It will all come down to deductions I suspect.
Can't win for losing.
At least I was proactive and made a choice to make it closer to 'normal' for my cheque.
It's been raining here for days. Much needed as we hadn't had any yet this spring really, but probably more than we needed. Would have been nice if we could have shared with those who are dry and at risk of fires.
I spent all of yesterday at the school working on marks, report cards and the year end awards presentation. I am on my way back there right away for round two. 16 much needed hours to get things off the never ending year end to do list at school.
This will be a busy week. I am gone with my class for two days for our year end trip. I anticipate very little sleep during the night, which makes the day 2, so much harder :-) We have a ton of activities at our school going on. We're done on the 30th.
My boys are finished regular classes after tomorrow. Then they move into finals and I think they are done by Friday.
I picked up a lovely cold last weekend which has turned into a very special case of viral bronchitis. My July cold came early this year :-) It will make the last 9 days of school that much more of a challenge.
I had better get my butt in gear.

With all the skimming I have been doing from one budget line and another to take care of the unexpected computer expenses, my 'buying one or two ahead' of some products went the wayside.
Where does this leave me? with my household and personal products ganging up on me and all being empty within the same week.
I am not talking one or two items, but a whole gang of them. shampoo and conditioner. dishsoap. laundry soap. toiletbowl cleaner, kleenex and toilet paper. my foundation. ketchup. the bread stash. all my pasta. the boys' cereal.
You sure feel the pinch when you are trying to find money for the everyday stuff as well as for the items which have run out.
It felt like everytime I turned around, another product was waving it's empty shell in front of me and taunting me with its 'I'm empty!!!' tirade.
Note to self: don't let this happen again.
Alright, the jury is in. It certainly was a costly little experience with some trojan viruses and their infective little friends. The laptop I got back from the shop first. It was $139 for the purging and some antivirus installation. I had to run the antivirus program several times before the warning popups stopped appearing on a regular basis.
Tuesday night the destop computer totally crashed as well. I tried valiantly to get it into safemode and do something, but it was beyond my abilities. Into the shop it went, although this time, I got it into my regular place rather than staples. I got that back last night to the tune of $89. Chalk full of trojans running amok.
So together for the two computers, my budget took a hit of $228. Money that was nowhere IN the budget line.
Yes yes I have my EF but I really fought dipping into it. That is a reaction I will have to explore a little deeper. Perhaps I need a $500 mini EF tucked away at home for things like this?
so I trimmed from everywhere I could. A bit from fuel, a bit from groceries. spending money went into it and the boys donated their allowance to it as well. They understand that we are not poor, but they also understand, I think, that there isn't this magical pot of free money to dip into.
I will have to do some rejigging of things again at the end of June when my paycheck is short two days of work. I really miss the 'normal' of just a few months ago, financially speaking.
