What I am reading

Back to my roots. There is just something about these that makes me think of mom and gives comfort.  I have to force myself to slow down so I don't burn through these too fast or then....it's done :-)

Last day with the kids. sort of

Today is the last day with my students for the most part. Tomorrow is a day where they can come in and hand in assignments or projects that never were done, or write a test they have missed.

It is a weird ending to the school year. My room is in various stages of being packed up to move downstairs. It worked out that I am doing a straight switch with a college so we have been proactive in moving things to each other's rooms. The kids are happy to move it and we did a lot of the big shelves of books last week.

I am going to miss my room. The windows overlook a quiet green space and my new one overlooks the parking lot. Not nearly as fun.

Today is pizza reward day for my kids. We are moving whatever is left that is ready to go and then DS1 is bringing pizza for the kids as my thank you for  doing so much heavy lifting. They are exited to meet DS after hearing about him all year. My hockey boys are particularly looking forward to it.

We shall have a good meal together and then write our last big exam together.

The days take forever but the years go by quickly.

Would have been 60

Today was a tough day. It would have been my parents 60th anniversary.  They met at an old country dance. Dad pulled up to the hall and saw this woman through the window of the hall and knew that was the girl he was going to marry. They had some very tough times and raised four daughters and built their own business. Both were the hardest workers I have ever know.

He didn't want to mark the day with anything and so we respected his wishes.

Wounded Knee

Last week of school and I start it wounded.

I really thought the rest I gave my knee yesterday would be enough but apparently not. It's worse today. I can't bend it and I am seriously limping.

Not a great day for my class field trip to an activity center.

I got to school and was visiting with colleagues and they all agreed I needed to see someone. I found someone to cover my class and headed to the walk in clinic.

I physically could touch my knee without any pain but it was the bending that got it. The DR confirmed that I did not need an xray or an ultrasound, but said that it was probably very badly bruised inside. She recommended bed rest so I ended up going home and boy did I sleep. From 11 to 2 PM and woke up all groggy.

It doesn't feel any better but at least there are only four days left of work.

What I am reading

I pulled out a popular novel from a decade or so ago. One I always meant to read and did not.

I always struggled with books that bop back and forth between characters. Just not my favourite style of writing. I am glad I read it. I have had students read it or want to read it and ask for my opinion so now I can offer them something substantial to get them reading. Anything to get kids reading.

Now to watch the movie, that I have also never seen :-) Boy I am out of touch.
