Regrets

After two different 2 day tournaments with my curling teams, I am feeling nostalgic for my kids to be young again.

And, I an feeling regret for the things I didn't do, or did not do enough.

I didn't use my time well.

I was lazy and we spent too much time watching tv, or I did and they did video games.

I was unhealthy.

I know, life is too short for regrets, but they popped in anyways.

I wish I had learned about money before they were born, or at the very least, when they were still little so we would have made wiser choices with what we had.

I wish I had baked more and cooked more meals (too much take out), as well as had healthier things on hand.

I wish I had been able to get to more of my kids' activities. I texted DS2 and told him I was sorry I hadn't gotten to his district curling meets to watch him. He said not to worry, but I felt badly about it.

I wish I had been the mom who had came with the Tupperware container of healthy things for them to snack on  at hockey or soccer or curling.

I wish I had read with them more.

I wish that I had done more physically active things with them. Of course being super overweight, I didn't have the energy or the dexterity. Vicious circle.

I wish.......... I had a do over.

I'm sure your boys know you were there for them. An empty nest is HARD. I am just now getting used to it, but still not entirely happy. As my last child left for college, my daughter who just got married became pregnant. My other daughter is on baby #3 due in October. So, by October 7th, 2016 I will have FOUR grandchildren. Whew. How did that happen? Time goes quicker than you think. No regrets!! Just look ahead.
Enjoy your quiet time. Do things that make YOU happy and content. You are more than just a MOM. Try to remember what you did BEFORE kids. I'll try to do the same....)

No point in looking back, just ahead! Think about all of the future opportunities to be there for your kids, demonstrating a healthy life & healthy finances. It's never too late to be a great role model.

I have a lot of regrets too about certain things. Not about being a great mom, since I was mostly a SAM and cooked and we did the Waldorf thing, so lots of wholesome stuff. But personal stuff, like not getting a job that had security, retirement stuff. But as Hawaii Planner says, we can only go forward and learn from the past. It's tough sometimes to look back but we did what we did the best we could, I truly believe.

From what I read, you did and do what you have capacity to do. I think you are probably harder on yourself than your kids would ever dream of being. Who's perfect parent? Who makes the best decision all the time? I have regrets but trying to make them a fleeting thought-hard I know.

Thank you.

It may be empty nest. It may be that I am wiser now that I am older. Not smarter, but perhaps a little wiser.

I have many regrets as well but when one of them crosses my mind I tell myself I did the best I could with what I had at the time. And it's true. We're good people Jolie - but we're not perfect! Accept what is and move on to making great choices as you continue to do your best.
