...it to be 'use it up' month, in the Money Tree house. Samples of this and small bottles of that. Lotions and potions and vials. Food items in the freezer and pantry. Small notepads breeding quietly in drawers until there are so many you don't know which one you wrote in.
Not just at home. At school too. How many scotch tape does one girl need active in her desk. Or boxes of staples. Or pens. Or sticky notes (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm love me my sticky notes)
Necessary? yes.
But where does this burning need to use up come from?
I think I am feeling completely out of control with my money lately. I know the end of the year is approaching and I haven't met a lot of my goals or did as much debt damage and savings as I would like. Penny wise but pound foolish? perhaps. But I need to start somewhere to get my chit back in order and feel in control and productive again.
So I shall see how many little things I can use up by the end of the month. It always gives me a good psychological feeling.

I love when you do this Jolie! It keeps me inspired to use up what's here and hold off any new purchases! I'm doing this with the pantry, not buying anything unless there is just a wee bit left!
ME TOO! My family can't believe how much more lotion I can get out of a bottle when THEY'RE ready to throw it out, or toothpaste etc. I can get extra WEEKS out of products that they are ready to toss! I have SO many little bottles of shampoo etc - I haven't had to buy NEW toiletries in months and months! Love it!
what a good idea!
I was only saying yesterday that I have enough pens, paper and sticky notes to last me several lifetimes. And I need to use up the stored food in my pantry so I can declutter it.
Jolie,
You are absolutely right, how many note pads does one person have to have. It's all these companies sending us this stuff for hopes we will donate. I don't want this crap because I have a drawer full like you. I can use up the best of lotions by cutting off the bottom and still use what's inside. That's what we call frugal.
Did you hear about the lady who found a plum pudding in her pantry that was over a 100 years old.(Port's-Smith England) They donated it to a museum. My God I would like to think you look in your pantry.
Great Post!
LOL I know what you mean. I usually try to only have one of each item I use on hand but hubby loves to have multiples of everything. The only thing I can't stop buying is--you guessed it--notebooks! Im a notebook addict! Anyway, I think you have made good progress this year. We always set far off goals but even moving to them continually, no matter how fast (or slow), means you are moving in the right direction.
It is a great feeling to make use of little knickknacks we pick along the way, isnt it? At work, I used to have over 7 pads, and a drawer-full of pens and really downsized that. Same thing at home with the trial size shampoo, soaps and laundry detergent. They really can hold off those purchases for a while! Great post.
I'm with Jane on this too... I hate when my younger siblings are about to throw toothpaste away, and I can still use it for a week!
