Do you give yourself an allowance? Spending money? blow money ??(though I really dislike that term)
I give my kids $10 a week to do with as they please. they are almost 16 and 13. I considered giving them more and having them budget for things like clothes but I don't think we were ready for that.
I give myself $20 a week. For whatever I please. It's kind of nice to have that little bit of money should I want to grab something for lunch during the week. I'm at the rink multiple times during the week and that money could go for a Timmy's en route to the rink or something from the concession.
I've saved the leftovers as well. Perhaps I might want to save for a higher priced skin care or hair care product. I have to admit though that it takes forever to save dibbles of allowance leftovers for something bigger.
Sometimes I spend the whole $20. Sometimes I spend next to none.
When I think of the larger, monthly sum, then I get squirmy. $80 a month!! That turns that lil $20 into something bigger and I think 'wow I could be using that elsewhere in the budget'
Still, I think a girl (or guy) needs a little something so that it isn't so tight that you start to hate the whole process. I want to stay healthy in terms of my budget lifespan and debt payoff. Just my opinion.

I just started budgeting a few months ago. The husband and kids all get their own spending money and I never budgeted myself some. That is changing this month. I deserve an allowance too. I find it hard to spend money on myself when we are working so hard to pay down debts, but I think I am going to crack if I can't have some frivolous things like a mocha frap. I think a discretionary fund could be a key to a happy budget.
I, too, give myself an allowance. Mine is $20 per week for whatever I want. I think it's totally reasonable and it makes sense to budget for this. Otherwise, feelings of deprivation set in and that's where a lot of spending troubles come in.
Everyone needs a little frivolous in their life.
I allow myself $20 a month I call it my me money.
I definitely think we need to budget it in and I don,t give a toss how much it comes to yearly or monthly, it helps with my sanity issues LOL
I don't give myself an allowence per say. But I do enjoy giving myself misc money and making it work for my allowence. :)
Why did you choose $10? Not judging, just asking out of curiousity.
I heard somewhere it should be a dollar for their age.. like 13 = $13 and so on
I ought to think about a plan for allowance for my kids in the future.
I give myself $20 a month, but the good thing is, that I find I don't even have a need or want to spend it, so I've been able to build up a nice little reserve in my wallet. It's nice to have for my odd coffee out with a friend or for when someone at work is asking for charitable donations for different things.
FB - I think I chose $10 because I started when DS was 10. Not a whole lot of logic. I would have to be more organized to have smaller denominations for 16 and for 13 LOL
DS1 spends his like wildfire and DS2 hoards his.
I plan to up it to $15 for both in January
I give myself $10.00 a week play money. Usually I don't spend it and it adds up quickly, so then i treat myself to something nice.
Nice increase in allowance for your children. I wouldn't mine getting a raise like that!!!
I don't give myself an allowance but I have a misc. line in my budget and use it for all and sundry: a newspaper on Saturdays, a bottle of wine for a party, a birthday card, a coffee pour moi, cosmetics, things for the house etc. We all need a little made money:)
Jordan and I each get $25/week! It's great to have somethign that's just yours - and it can add up.
